Sean and I have learned to deal with him being on night shift - and a weird variety, at that. I try to make sure there's coffee either 1) in the house or 2) prepped in his coffee machine before leaving for work. I try to clean up so that all he has to do is go to sleep, wake up, shower, clothe and head to work. Occasionally, I'm an overachiever and make his dinner....lately I've slacked and relied on the frozen food sales at Safeway and stocked up on some delicious-looking Lean Cuisine.
However, there are moments that make me envious of "normal" couples.
Take yesterday. Sean decided to sleep in the evening rather than staying up to help him switch to night-shift "mode" for the following worknight due to a meeting this morning. I actually got to sleep. In the same bed. AT THE SAME TIME. With my HUSBAND. And the awesome part was it didn't feel weird like some adjusting days are (geez, who's taking up the bed??? haha....). He got up around 6:30 and was ready to go. I needed to have covers surgically removed to get myself up by 7. He came in and snuggled with me, woke me up by talking gently to me. It all ended when one of us said "Hallo" and the other responded "Salut" and ended with Sean looking for the Numa Numa video on YouTube. We actually were able to get ready together, since I was asked to go into work early. It was fun for both of us actually HAVING to be awake at the same time and cherish the moments we had!
I'm grateful for those moments God gives us...even though Sean couldn't nap today and had to work his 12 hr shift tonight, the feeling of some kind of "normal" normalcy was...pleasant:)
