A Taste of Normalcy....

Sean and I have learned to deal with him being on night shift - and a weird variety, at that. I try to make sure there's coffee either 1) in the house or 2) prepped in his coffee machine before leaving for work. I try to clean up so that all he has to do is go to sleep, wake up, shower, clothe and head to work. Occasionally, I'm an overachiever and make his dinner....lately I've slacked and relied on the frozen food sales at Safeway and stocked up on some delicious-looking Lean Cuisine.

However, there are moments that make me envious of "normal" couples.

Take yesterday. Sean decided to sleep in the evening rather than staying up to help him switch to night-shift "mode" for the following worknight due to a meeting this morning. I actually got to sleep. In the same bed. AT THE SAME TIME. With my HUSBAND. And the awesome part was it didn't feel weird like some adjusting days are (geez, who's taking up the bed??? haha....). He got up around 6:30 and was ready to go. I needed to have covers surgically removed to get myself up by 7. He came in and snuggled with me, woke me up by talking gently to me. It all ended when one of us said "Hallo" and the other responded "Salut" and ended with Sean looking for the Numa Numa video on YouTube. We actually were able to get ready together, since I was asked to go into work early. It was fun for both of us actually HAVING to be awake at the same time and cherish the moments we had!

I'm grateful for those moments God gives us...even though Sean couldn't nap today and had to work his 12 hr shift tonight, the feeling of some kind of "normal" normalcy was...pleasant:)

My weekend was great because....

So Sean's at work, which is why I'm up at 12:30 on a worknight. Actually it's also because I'm watching "The Princess and The Frog" on Netflix. I love that movie! I'll probably end up crying partway through this posting just because of it...

This weekend, I got a lot done. I picked out several things from the grocery store to make this week for Thanksgiving. Sean works Wed and Thur night, so we're going to have our Thanksgiving on Friday when he gets home. Right now my biggest concern is the turkey: technically, it's cheaper to get a huge turkey for about $15 than to get a smaller one (specialty's about 6 lbs and $23!). Otherwise, I have stuffing, potatoes, green bean casserole, and corn, at least that's what I can remember!

I got several things done for the classroom too. Friday was most of the parent teacher conferences AND our Thanksgiving Lunch (no party for us THIS holiday haha), and it wasn't too terrible, so this week will be minimal. I have the next theme's books and plans ready to go. All I have to do is get through 3 days of work :)

I also did a lot of food prepping. I was trying to make something that might be easy on Sean and I's stomach, since we've both been feeling a little "ish" in the tummy this week. (*Cue tears* Ray's with his Evangeline....WHOOOT!! *Ahem*) I cooked up 2 chicken breasts with a little oil and chicken boullion. Added that to about 1 1/2 cups of frozen veggies I found in the freezer and a lot of egg noodles (I love my carbs!). I wanted it to be a soup, but there was waaay too much food for that, so I just added about 1/2 cup of water so the boullion could be distributed among everything in the pan. I hope it was delicious - I'm saving my portion for lunch tmw! I also cut up cucumbers and let them marinate in dressing and mixed up some pudding. I wish I did this daily, but at least this is a start! I'm still trying to figure out what I can make tomorrow with my leftover ingredients:)

I'm excited for tomorrow. I'm meeting with a few parents and hopefully starting some of my kids' transitions to Kindergarten. The thought from the office was to put 5 of my kids in the Kg class so my class wouldn't go over 20 on any given day. I've come up with 3 kids that are ready emotionally, academically, and socially for Kg. 2 kids I'm waiting for them to become more solid in their ABC knowledge and 1 cried when I suggested the idea of moving classrooms, so 3 is better than none, right? :)

I also have to make an educational care package for a kid who's going on vacation from November to March or so...holy cow. I need that kind of job :P Anyway, I have to look FAR in advance and give his parents some ideas on what they can do with him in order to keep him up to date on what we're doing.

Alright, movie is over, and I needed no tissues! That isn't saying the same thing as "I didn't cry," because there are parts that just make you shudder, grin like an idiot, and shed a tear ;-) Maybe I'm just a sucker for Disney Princesses? Could be....

Anyway, it's 1am. Goodnight blogging world! Tell me how your weekend went!

Happy Almost Thanksgiving!

Can't believe I'm this bad at updating. Actually I can. I can be OCD about things, persistent about completing tasks, but there are things that just get put on the back burner. Thankfully, none of those things are my marriage, my parents, my brothers, my job, and my kids (at my job:) ). That said, I'm terrible at blogging!

Alright, long story short of updating: Parents moved into their recently finished retirement home! Sean and I married 6 months and LOVING it! I'm working on taking baby steps again in my faith:) 14 months at the same job - doing alright but hoping for an upgrade in the future!

It's hard to actually have an update post without feeling like you're the rambling one sitting at the coffee shop after work:) I want to share about my hurts, my excitements, my feelings, etc. However, I don't want to scare anyone that might even be thinking about dropping a note! So, let's talk about...my kids!

My kids: 26 giggly, squirmy, excited, imaginative, 4-year-old sponges that I have the privilege to teach on a daily basis. Now if you know VA daycare laws, the ratio for 4 year olds is 1 teacher to 10 kids. My assistant/coteacher and I have been BLESSED by the days that the kids come in. We have never had all 26 there at the same time. That might change in the next few weeks, but honestly it's alright.

We see so much learning going on: my newly 5 year old who didn't even know the letters of his name spelled "ORANGE" and "GREEN" to me yesterday! I was so excited I probably scared him from spelling to me again ;)

Parent teacher conferences are this coming Friday and next Monday. Part of me wishes it was earlier, but since I just finished the assessments on Sunday night (technically 12:30am Monday morning), it's probably a good idea the conferences are later! I'm not sure if I have to do all the conferences or if I can pass off some of them to my assistant/coteacher :)

My kids are doing really well! By the end of the YEAR they should know things such as the entire alphabet, sounds included, rhymes, count up to and recognize #1-10, patterns, and write their own name. Right now, most of them can spell their name out loud AND write them. We are working on patterns. Almost all of them can count 1-10 without much prompting. Many of the kids know their full alphabet. Basically, I'm raising geniuses ;) Just kidding, but they are a great bunch of kids with great minds!

Alright, I just saw blue lightning just outside the porch window, along with what sounds like terrrrible winds and torrential rain.....what a night for Sean to be at work :( I think I'll sleep on the couch. Updates TBC, folks :)

Refreshing...the Disney Way

Yesterday was a tough day of work. On top of my morning, when I went to walk to Starbucks from work (a meager 6 or so stores down), the sky literally turned black, the wind started howling against the massive building, and thunder, lightening, and rain all poured down at once. It was incredible. I stood there talking to our Asst Director for the last 30 minutes of break, drinking down the coffee that they provide for parents in the morning.

After that, the day was just barely bearable. Lots of things that someone wanted to do one way, but I had to correct.....did I mention I hate correcting adults? Especially when it's something that we initially agreed on, but then they wanted to do things their way. Ooh, what gets me if they change it because they feel the child is incompetent....*shudders* That just ruffles my feathers at a whole new level of upsetedness....*Ahem* Anyway, yeah the day was long.

I texted Sean during a bathroom break and asked him if we could have something special tonight, like milkshakes. He said definitely! When I got outta work, I called him - he got the milk, I got the ice cream (yay for being in 2 stores at once and comparing prices:P).

We got home within 5 minutes of each other. Since we have to clean out the fridge a bit, we had delicious leftovers of stew and stir-fry :) We decided to watch "Up" while eating it. I'm pretty sure we were done with our food before the intro finished and were just staring at the TV the rest of the time. I remember at one point just pausing it to get orange creamsicle milkshakes, but otherwise the story drew us in fantastically!

After watching it, Sean commented that this was the best Disney Date Night movie ever. I agree. It was very emotional, especially for Disney! When the credits finally finished, we sat there, completely embraced, pouring out ILYs left and right ;) We decided to go out and catch fireflies at that point. I caught one and one caught Sean :) We then walked and talked all the way to CVS and back for a soda.

The rest of the night was devoted to Fallout 3 watching/playing. I love video games, but I'm definitely more of a watcher than a player on gaming systems. On the computer, I'll take over in a heartbeat;) I love showing Sean support as well - we both get very into the game and sometimes I'll check to make sure he's not missing any prize items before he leaves a location ;)

It was definitely an awesome night for both of us - even though we didn't stop the game until 1am, and after that we just talked for a while. I love being married, especially to someone who's willing to be spontaneous and shows love for me when I've had a rotten day :)

Ms Bitters, begone!

So I'm slowly realizing how bitter and pissed I've been for the last...I dunno! I feel terrible just because that's NOT how I really am, but lately I've been so negative, sarcastic, even hurtful at times. And I work with kids!! How horrible is that?!

Today was my class's graduation. Lemme tell you this, as nervous as you think you are for BEING in a graduation, it's nothing like DESIGNING and RUNNING one. Especially for 4 and 5 year olds. Thank God they at least were quiet for the first 15 seconds after they walked outside to their parents! They did well and we shared some good memories. Only 2 kids were left after the party, so they were moved to another room so my assistant and I could clean:)

Long story short, I got stuck doing the monthly night of watching kids while parents go out and relax. Around 5:45, I finally accepted this :P Yes, you see, I am Ms. Bitters. About to upgrade if I'm not careful! I had 10 kids, 2 of which were my graduates earlier in the day. They were sooo crazy. I thought it was bad when they stayed til the usual 6:30. Nope. Oh well, only 3 hours more, and no one died, so I think I did good. 11 hour workday, whoot! And no lunch other than a few chicken nuggets from the kids' lunch, btw.

My weekend is consisting of sending a card ASAP to my brother who's in training in Georgia, making labels for wedding Thank you notes - I know it's been a month, don't judge please? :P - maybe some baking, cooking, etc, going to the PO, the library, the bank, finding my filled-out social security card change form....yeah I think that's it for now :) Oh, maybe going to Unique if I can find someone to go with!

I also wanna start reading some of those beginning marriage/Christianity books I picked up. Definitely want to read a chapter or 2 from the Mary/Martha book that this blog is labeled with now.

Maybe that means I should go to bed now.... My goal's to find the best in everything tomorrow! I'll try to update tmw night and let you know how it goes!

Time for an Update

Hello, Mrs. Rebecca here!! It's so strange thinking I've been married for 8 days today! The wedding was beautiful - if I take the time to take pictures off a USB stick, I'll post them. The weather was very cooperating; in the morning we had humidity, followed by a 15 minute downpour, then nothing but blue skies the rest of the day! There are so many aspects I want to talk about, like how my Mom panicked because it took my old roommate longer than expected to fix my hair and makeup, or how Sean and I decided last minute to not take the tandem bike into the sunset, but went for his pollen-covered car instead, or me smashing cake into Sean's face when he was being nice ;) So many memories, and so many people arrived that I didn't expect!

Sean and I have been enjoying married life! We like the idea of not having one of us drive home at 11pm to our separate homes, to wake up and have your best friend there to say good morning to...in person! Haha we joke about how much gas and text messages we'll save just because we're in the same place now - it's true! We spent the week after our wedding relaxing, goofing off in the hotel (no seriously, they have 4 glass elevators and we spent a long time trying to get them all onto the same floor...without ticking off any of the other guests!), shopping for jackets because we forgot ours, making Amish Friendship Bread, and organizing our apartment into a home. Adding my stuff PLUS all the wedding gifts has been a trial, but we have been very polite with each other while trying to make room for the essentials :)

It was really hard going back to work on Thursday, but my kids missed me! My assistant teacher had helped them make a sign for me that said "Welcome Back Mrs. Rebecca! We missed you!" or something of that nature:) They were so adorable on Thursday, but Friday they were back to their normal tricks. Next week my director decided to have parent-teacher conferences for the PreK rooms...bit torn on how to respond there: glad they're happening, but not that quickly! I had to take home 17 assessment sets to fill out on each child, how they've progressed, and match it to the papers I had them do on Friday (colors, shapes, numbers, letters, words, names) to show their progress. I am praying that all goes smoothly - I think that the teachers are supposed to share the meetings, but I don't feel comfortable doing that, so I'll be doing mine on my own (yipes!). Pray that I have a clear head, as this is the last time I meet with the parents - other than our "graduation ceremony" - about their child going into Kindergarten in the fall, whether in the Kindercare or in the school. Pray that I can clearly show parents what their child needs more of in order to enter school without fear of being behind!

Time to go get my laundry out of the car! My former landlady let me know that I could come over and do laundry anytime I needed to, so yesterday I brought over 2 Rubbermaid tubs filled with dirty laundry - yippee? I got to visit with my former housemate, Josephine, and go shopping with her, make pancakes, and watch Sherlock while the laundry did its thing. Now all I have to do is bring the tubs back into the apt - it was about 12:45 when I got home last night/this morning, so I didn't feel like toting anything in at that time!

Alright, I think I've rambled enough. Laundry - and then church! - here I come!!! :)

Back to the Job-bing board...

So these past few weeks have made me realize something. I LOVE working with kids, but I want to work in a more stable EDUCATIONAL environment. Not saying that my current area isn't educational, but it's more like having the parent as the bigger part of your teacher profile pie.

Get it?

...no?

Ok! Let's try this....

As a teacher, you should be 1) a teacher, 2) a parent, 3) a friend....right? Something like that. I wish I had my documents actually ON this computer so I could look up some of the things I learned in my EDUC classes! Anyway, in THIS job that I'm currently working in, I'm more parent than teacher or friend by FAR. Last week, 4 kids had bathroom-related accidents at naptime. Only one kid had all the clothes he needed to change into. The others were missing either undergarments, pants, or everything. Seriously! So, like a concerned mother, I scoured the other classrooms, looking for "leftover clothes" (aka our lost and founds) for something that would fit the precious children. Eventually their accidents were forgotten, pants/etc were returned cleaned, and the children's tears of shame were gone.

But I don't want to be a parent. At least not as a paid job;) I crave more teaching, more looking at books, more going on field trips. Last week because of one teacher being given the day off, they moved the remaining teachers around and I was by myself with 10 kids (their age ratio). We were able to do a TON because there were only 10 of them! We sang marching songs and walked around the room, had a treasure hunt out of the classroom, and even stretched their legs out during circle times. It was great! But again, none of these had a real core educational purpose. They were merely to keep the children happy while their parents work.

Alright, this has turned into a massive rant of what seems like "why I hate my job." Believe me, hate is too strong a word! I'm not sure I even dislike the job; it's like when you have to go somewhere and you think about all the ways you could put it off but in the end you go and have a great time and wonder what you were thinking all day trying to NOT go. I do that on a daily basis. I enjoy the hugs, wiping away tears, the premade curriculum.

However, when other offers show up online - cmon Craigslist, Wash Post, WTOP, etc! - I'm trying them out. I'm looking to see if anyone out there's looking for someone like me. Eager to teach, eager to let kids explore and LEARN from anything we do! Does such an employer exist?

I am praying that God shows me where I'm meant to be. If I'm meant to be wiping noses, cleaning up accidents, and singing "Baby Bumblebee" for the next year in order to follow God's path and be closer to Him by obedience, I'll do it. Next step is praying for a non-grumbly heart in this - I have to constantly remind myself to be thankful, for what I have is a blessing that not everyone has.

Welcome 2010!

Tis the year for many new things! I'm excited about a new year and trying to get more things done:)

Sean and I are still determining a wedding date. We are looking between April and June, so we'll see which weekend we can actually make it happen! I feel so blessed that my landlady as well as a dear friend are willing to help me out with everything! I can't wait to get the date set for sure so that we can get invitations and everything all put together :D So much fun!!!

Work has been going well. I now qualify for benefits there, but I'm probably going with Sean's plan when we get married :) My coteacher is leaving in about a month for the military, so I have been working as the lead teacher *yay!* with a new assistant teacher. The first few days I nearly cried trying to work with her, but I believe we are coming to an understanding about how things run in the classroom and what makes the kids tick, etc. The last 2 days have worked well :)

I discovered that I can redownload Guild Wars off their website!! Yay! I'm sure my addiction will be minimal since my main laptop is at Sean's parents' house in NY and I'm using the mutual Netbook (Samsung NC10) for email, small games, etc. But I do miss going out and destroying some enemies. Hmm maybe I can find some GW friends through Facebook:P

Alright, it's Friday night, Sean has been at work since 7:30 tonight, annnnnd....I have laundry. Ew. At least it's something to do! Maybe tomorrow I can sleep past 8 :D

Nov 10, 2009

November....

November is here! Hardly feels like it, since the weather has been in the 70's for the last 3-4 days. Seriously?!! Thanks God:-) The kids didn't even need coats - and I'm careful since many of them have either been out sick or have caught something in the last couple weeks.

Oh my goodness, the kids are adorable! Okay, nearly every day there are (and will be) moments that make me want to pull out hair - mine or theirs, it doesn't matter. However, they are some sweet individuals! From having one of the most obnoxious coming up to me and saying "Miss Rebecca, I want to give you a hug" to having one of the littlest ones coming up to me while he's upset and say "I want to stick by you now" because he's having a rough morning, they're all precious!! Things have been stressful trying to do so many activities with them (they're all preplanned in the curriculum, but it's still a bit rough trying to do all of them every day!) on top of prepping for parent teacher conferences. Hopefully by this time next week, conferences will be over and we'll have a plan of action for the kids to excel :-)

Sean and I are doing well. Actually he's currently in Tampa, lucky duck, on a business trip. It's actually hard to spend time apart after living within 10 minutes of each other for the last 3 months and seeing each other daily! I think God has really blessed us with this relationship. Neither of us were expecting a 2nd chance - both of us had boulders to push aside in order to find the other - but God granted us forgiveness and encouragement to continue onward. I'm so excited for whatever God has in store for us next!!!

Most of my life is consumed by work, which is really hard. I work 40ish hours per week. Since I'm a closer (we close at 6:30), I have to clean up as the kids are being picked up AND keep track of them:-P It's been challenging finding the right way to do things while still doing a good job with the kids. Thankfully the kids become realllll understanding around 6pm when I'm starting to clean up and everything. Tonight I had 3-4 kids left, 2 of which are actually "mine" (in my specific PreK room). I convinced them all to put all the toys back in their rightful centers and then come sit on the carpet so that we could dance to music:-P They did that while I bagged up the trash and cleaned off the tables - exxxxcellent! I'm praying that I'm actually helping at work daily - sometimes I feel like I'm dragging when I come in and the kids don't give me a chance to catch up! One of the downsides of not being in work until 9:30....

Christmas is coming soon! I'm still keeping my eye out for gifts - I've found a few things that I like, but I'm trying to be careful with my income, since there's possible future factors, as well as the idea that I'm living *completely* on my own and paying out of pocket for everything. I am definitely praising God for the opportunity that He's given me with this job to earn income and pay off stuff!

Alright, on to some more planning time. And this time, I have more of an idea what I'd like :-)

Quick Post....

Monday night I started 2 scarves. Last night I started either a wide scarf or a mini shawl. We'll see how long these last! This is more of a post to see if I can get them done in 2 weeks like I did the first scarf...then again, THAT scarf had no design whatsoever, and these I'm doing cable stitches. Ahhh! We'll see:)

I'm waiting for my laundry to finish. it has most of my work pants and all but one of my work shirts. Sometimes I despise not being able to wear jeans or sweatpants, even nice ones of either type. I've tried finding khakis or other things, but haven't had any luck regarding size. Meh. At least it gets me up in the morning - "Gotta put my stuff in the dryer or I won't have ANYTHING to wear!" :P

Tonight I babysit right after work. Like seriously, immediately afterwards. 9:30-6:30 work then 7-9:30? babysitting. I have to run to the library on my lunch break to get a few DVDs that the kids will watch:) Their favorite is Curious George - the mini movies that go along with the books. Hopefully there's at least one on the shelf by the time I arrive!

PS - So many of my friends are engaged, married, and having babies. Seriously!!! Part of me is a bit jealous, but I know everything's in God's timing and rarely in mine:)

Fall is Here!

Actually it's been here for quite some time, but I haven't had the time/energy to post since the 9th. Holy cow:)

I am LOVING my job at the daycare. It's truly a joy to see 20 kids learning and playing together in this kind of atmosphere. Sometimes there are rough patches, but then we have outside time and naptime - basically moments where us teachers can sit back and breathe, if only for 5 minutes:) My co-teacher is amazing. She has tons of ideas that she wants to implement into the classroom. I'm here to help execute them AND help her keep her sanity. Haha, I've even put a Yankee Fall Candle up in one of our cupboards so that whenever either of us are seriously stressed, we just smell it for a few seconds and go on with our day a bit more relaxed!

Things with Sean are going amazing as well. Initially when he moved nearby, I was all gun-ho about getting together as often as possible. Part of me learned, however, that he needs some time on his own too, so we've been working on finding a good balance. We're trying for a once a week date - usually Friday, since our paychecks come then:P - and then the other nights we're free just relaxing watching a movie or Farscape:) I'm really praying that God guides us in the right direction, and I think so far we're staying on track with Him, because there's a peace about our relationship that I can't quite explain. Yay, God! :)

I'm starting up knitting again. Some might be for Christmas gifts, but most are just to experiment. I have sadly lost (during the transit of moving home and moving to Fairfax) my 1/4th completed black scarf that had an amazing cable pattern on it. Okay, simple pattern, but it was amazing to me;P I went to Walmart last weekend and bought some needles to replace the ones the partly-created scarf was attached to, but I had black yarn. I won't do a complete replicate, but I'd like to start doing something similar. So far, 1 knitted, 1 crocheted, and I put 2 more scarves on the needles at 11:30 last night:P Should be a great winter!

Alright, time to pack my lunch and take some drugs so that I survive today:) We have a mandatory meeting after work tonight, so I won't be home before 8:30. Lovely! As long as it doesn't make me sick....that's the kids' job ;)

A Time to Grow....

Yesterday was probably one of the toughest days. But I'm taking it well. I had a bit of a headache when I returned from my trip to a new park and took a nap while watching the movie Anastasia. Good movie. Woke up to several of my brothers' friends trying to pick up a wardrobe that Mom/Dad had shoved into this room. Lovely:P

Part of me feels that yesterday, I didn't explain things as well as I ought to. I let things seem hopeful, because I cannot bring myself to do something that I know will hurt the other person, even if it is for a little while. I feel like I have a loose tooth, but instead of just pulling it out, I'm letting it dangle....it'll eventually have to come out, but for now it still brings a bit of pain while it's still attached.

In other news, I have 3 subbing jobs this week - same school, just different teachers for planning day. Should be fun! I'm sad this job will be "over" in a few short school days. Maybe I can find a sub job for the summer...?

My family's house is nearly completed in painting. It's still weird thinking that all the work they are putting into the house, and I will be left behind, voluntarily, so to speak:P I can't afford mortgage on this house, so I'll be finding a place of my own, but I'll still be in Fairfax County if I can help it.

Alright, time to get up. Church @ McLean or IBC? Depends on how long it takes for me to shower and get ready...

Hanging on to Hope

I set up my employee account yesterday with FCPS - whoot! However, I couldn't find any jobs for tomorrow. "No problem," I think, "I'll wake up and check periodically through the night."

I went to bed around 11 after checking 2-3 times. I woke up at 3:15 and 5:15 to check - both times nothing was there. I finally got up by 8, checked, nothing. I'm still hanging on to the hope that there is a job out there for me to do. I guess since that's not happening today, as it is 9:33 and school started over an hour ago, I'll work on creating a substitute folder. I'm hoping to put a bit of every SOL for the grades I can teach (K-6th) into a folder so that I can just look through it and see what the students should know/not know. I WISH that Fairfax County would put their Pacing Guides online so that I could see what SOLs were currently being taught in the classroom and I could have matching worksheets in case students finished prearranged work early....yeah maybe that's an overachiever ideal, but I'd love to do that and show that I'm really really ready to teach some kids!

Today I must also convince Sean to have his car looked at. It's been stalling randomly...usually while he's on 495 or another busy "cut-through" to his work in Vienna. Yikes! I'm hoping that he'll seriously consider taking it in ASAP, but only God knows what happens every day of our lives:)

A Thought...

This about sums up what my heart is feeling:

"Being jealous is easy when you think you have nothing; it's when you see your life through Jesus' eyes that you see your blessings..."

Right now it's hard not to be jealous. I have friends that are already married that were engaged after me. I have friends that got engaged in the last 6 months and they're getting married this year. I have friends that chat excitedly about getting jobs and moving to a place of their own. Some friends are even expecting kids of their own!

It hurts, duh. I can't do those things right now. Neither Sean nor I have sustainable jobs to help ourselves, let alone the other person. Honestly I've wondered if I should just go back to Lynchburg for another month and work at the daycare again before the place I was renting at gets sold. True, punching out the numbers shows that it wouldn't be well worth it, but the thought still lingers.

I am too different from my parents - and too alike - to stay at the house much longer. However, no jobs have appeared, which means no apartment, shared or solo, to run to. I think I need to give prayer another shot. A better shot, actually.

Bedtime, unfortunately. Must get up and leave the house by 7am to work tomorrow. At least that means 3 hours of work with one of the most beautiful little girls ever!:)

Week 5

Holy cow it's been 5 weeks? Wow I need a job;)

Actually, I had a call back from Barnes and Noble (they only pay a bit over $7/hr, so I declined) and Paneras (after going to NVTemps, so declined them). My registration at NVTemps went well. It was actually fun once the frightening stuff was over. Frightening meaning the tests for Microsoft Office was 2000 edition. Maybe that's what most of their clients use in their offices? Anyway, tested great on everything somehow (God's grace!) and talked with a lady about doing some temp work.

Since I am just working this upcoming week with lovely Lauren, I asked that NVTemps search for a job for me that starts next week:) I actually got a call from them that afternoon - a lady in the office that didn't get that memo asked if I could work the next day! I also got a message from a conceirge business that needed someone to work the night shift tonight. I declined, but I'm excited!

This upcoming week should be interesting. Mom's in Vermont with my grandparents for the week. Public school just started their spring break (yesterday!), so Tim is doing a road trip with friends and his youth group leader. Phil and Sam are stuck here with me:P Oh, and Dad and Sean, too:) Hopefully it should work out well, but if not, I'll be ranting like usual :P

I got to see the Easter pageant tonight with Alison! Oooh I'm so happy I went:) I cried just looking through the list of kids in the pageant that I've seen grow up! Oh, and the singing! It makes me tear up just thinking about the beautiful worship that happened tonight:) Hopefully I'll get up to church sometime and get to stop by the dancer's room and say hi to the few I still know:)

Alright, I get up in 6 hours, feed the dog, shower, and get the boys and myself ready for 8am service. Whoot!:P

Done!!

I am officially DONE at the daycare! :) No I won't be burning my required shirts, but I'll think about some other creative use for them. I honestly wasn't expecting today to be my last, but I think it turned out good.

My supervisor came in a few days ago and asked that since I was going to be done on the 20th, I shouldn't need Monday, Tues, and Wed off next week, right? :P I explained that no, I still needed it to sort out things with my folks before moving back in. Well she came into (my *tear*) class today and asked if I just wanted to make today my last day since I was only going to be there Thurs and Fri next week anyway.

During my lunch break, I thought about it, prayed about it, and asked a few people for their opinion. I came to the conclusion that it would be much easier on the kids if I left after today instead of having another teacher for a few days, me, and the teacher again. So I went back, told my supervisor, and just loved on my kids a ton before they got picked up.

I'll definitely miss every one of them: the cusser, the wrestler, the boot-kicker, the shoe-remover, the napless wonder, the hugger, the runner, the newbie, and the sweetheart. I honestly wished I had so much more time with them, and I wrote a note to their parents to tell them so. I talked with my replacement (weird to think about), and she seems like she will be able to control them fairly well and give them the love and attention they deserve (not request;) ).

In other news...
Tonight Sean and I made dinner:) I had wanted to make him enchiladas because it's a really good recipe, but I didn't have time this week to make playdough, let alone 2 days of enchilada cooking! So we made linguini with alfredo sauce and shrimp, with some shrimp and cocktail sauce on the side..... mmmm delicious! After that I took a nice nap while Sean worked before going back here to sleep:)

I'm not sure entirely what's planned for tomorrow. Sean and I have never really celebrated Valentine's day, probably because the 23rd of the month is our half anniversary of dating and we'd rather do something for that :P I know we're having lunch tomorrow, but then he has to work 1-5. After that, who knows? :) I still have to finish his *shhh* gift :D Night!

Week 2 Begins

I LOVE this job! There are 15-17 infants in the department at the daycare I am currently situated in. I believe the smallest one, Tia, is nearly 3 months old *giggles* I love baby fingers and toes and coos....though I don't like their puke still:P We have to wear our t-shirts with the daycare logo and name on them every day, so I've been doing laundry nonstop this past week! At least things always come out of the clothes:)

Sean is still in job hunt mode, though not very serious. I can't talk about it too much or I'll get very frustrated and won't go to bed till 2:P He's still looking for a car - long story short, his was in an accident, got little damage, but hood is curled in and muffler fell off just before our Christmas break, now the speedometer isn't working - but is very picky :( I'm praying that God just hits him with something:)

I'm still working on making myself a budget. I got paid on Friday - apparently their system is Fri-Thur for 2 weeks, so I just got the tail end of it! With this lovely paycheck I bought over 60$ in groceries. Yes, over 60. Much of this, if not all, was very healthy foods that I split between Sean and myself. We both need to eat healthier, and while it hurts my paycheck, it'll help us start getting on track with what we eat. I got brown rice, wheat pasta, lean ground turkey, lard-free cornmeal for cornbread, yogurts (mmm my stomach's growling now!), applesauce (in individual containers so we can portion things out better), special k cereal, mixed fruit cups, sugar free (?) jello pudding for Sean, extraordinarily healthy breakfast bars, a few veggies, and more. It was well worth it:P

Alright, time for reading before bed:) I've been reading Psalms, Proverbs, and Job - interesting combo, but God seems to always show me a verse that corresponds with what's been on my heart during the day, whether it be jealousy, frustration, dealing with sin, encouragement, etc. I hope to find some kind of Bible study with other young women - hard when you've passed the college stage but aren't married yet:P - and have some kind of fellowship weekly:)

BTW, feel free to leave a comment. I just put this URL on my Facebook, so I expect anonymous posts from good friends here soon!!:)
