Holiday weekend!!!!
This weekend being Memorial Day, I finally had a day off work! Sean having the job that he does, didn't have any days off from normal, but thankfully had Monday off!
Sunday afternoon I planned all sorts of things to do today. My list included 6 or 7 things to do this weekend, Unfortunately we underestimated the heat that would come as well as the intense walking at our first location.
For starters, we took the Metro starting in Vienna. Little did we know that they decided to do construction between Orange stop #3 and #4. We ended up getting off the Metrorail at #3, taking the Metrobus to #4, and using the Metrorail towards...
The ZOO!!! I finally went to the zoo after not being able to go for years. I miss the birthdays that I had with my family, going every year by metro or driving over to the zoo to see the animals. Even if I had a birthday party with Cabbage Patch Kids or Pizza or Chuck E Cheese, just my family would head to the zoo one day. It is definitely one of my most cherished memories!
Sean and I checked out as much of the zoo as we could stand. We saw komodo dragons, elephants, lions, porcupines, octopus, and of course, panda bears!!! Now the octopus may startle you if you know me. I despise octopus with an unhealthy passion. I've been known to drop books while reading them to the kids if they have an octopus on the page. But, I tried to brave my fears and decided to go see the octopus at the zoo. Ugh, so squishy-looking, very fast and stretchy, and altogether gross and gooey :P But, I did stand there and tried to look at it for what it was: a beautiful creation created by God to look that way and function that way. I will agree with all that; however, I still get goosebumps by even thinking about that creature! :P
Back to the day: Sean and I decided a little while after leaving the invertebrates' building that we should just go home rather than heading to a museum on Constitution Ave. Initially, I was a bit torn, but by the time we walked back UP through the zoo to get back to the metro station, we were both ready to just sit and go back home. We thank God that metro traffic was not nearly as bad as we had painted it in our minds for this weekend. We headed back home using our same routine of metro station to metrobus back to metrorail. I got a nap before the bus, Sean got one on the bus, and we both tried to stay awake the last 3 stops.
When we got home, we both changed into non dripping, disgusting summer clothes....couldn't believe how much sweating occurred just walking around! :( Sean relaxed on the floor and fell asleep - he hadn't slept much at all in the morning and STILL woke up, showered, and shaved....oh, and made coffee!...before I woke up at 6:30. I made an old family recipe, Barbie's Casserole, with a little twist. It turned out delicious, but I need to double the recipe next time so that there are plenty of leftovers! My little twist was adding onions, sautéed in a little oil and beef bouillon. Yummmmm-my!
Now I'm watching my 3rd movie...I've been skipping back and forth between some I have because Sean keeps waking up to spend time with me, but he's so tired I send him back to bed to sleep more. Sadly I get torn during these moments...I want to spend time with him, since I have to go back to work tomorrow and "normal" returns essentially. On the flip side, I care about him too much to get frustrated over something he really can't control: insomnia followed by exhaustive walking through DC, followed by deep naps. I'm not sure how I can tell my brain to follow the latter idea, that Sean doesn't mean to frustrate me by being sleepy and incoherent during one of our mutual days off. I really want to serve my husband, and finding frustration in his actions isn't the way to go about it :P
Alright, off to finish a bit of teaching stuff, maybe some job applications(??), and then bedtime routine and snuggling with my very tired husband:)
